GOLF – THE seventh edition of the Bahrain Amateur Open golf championship is set for Thursday to Saturday next week at the Royal Golf Club.
This was announced yesterday by the Bahrain Golf Association (BGA).
The tournament will feature around 100 amateur players from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, and Lebanon, in addition to a number of players of various nationalities residing in the kingdom.
Golfers from Bahrain’s national teams will also participate in the three-day, 54-hole event.
The Bahrain Amateur Open is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting event. The winner will not only come away with the coveted trophy, but also earn a qualification card for next year’s Bahrain Championship on the 2026 DP World Tour.
It will also be the final selection event for the best Bahraini youngsters vying for a spot on the kingdom’s team that will compete in the third Asian Youth Games, which will be held on the island from October 22 to 31. Golf is one of the 26 sports that will feature at the mega, multi-sport occasion.
Furthermore, the seventh Bahrain Amateur Open acts as a qualifier for this year’s King Hamad Trophy (KHT), to be held November 27 to 29 at the Royal Golf Club.
On this occasion, BGA president Major General Ali bin Saqr Al Nuaimi stressed the importance of the tournament, which has become one of the most distinguished sporting events for amateur golfers in Bahrain and the region.
He said that it supports the BGA’s ambitious development plans which aim to spread the culture of golf locally, and encourage young people to engage in the sport and participate in national championships.
Aadam Syed of Pakistan was the champion of last year’s Bahrain Amateur Open. Briton Jay Mullane was the runner-up while Egyptian Issa Abou El Ela came third.
