Oman and Kuwait have banned the sale of Uranus Star water bottles imported from Iran after two people died of poisoning in Oman.
An Omani man and an expatriate woman reportedly died after drinking the contaminated water in Oman’s Wilayat Al Suwaiq on Wednesday.
Another Omani woman is currently recovering from the poisoning.
Tests conducted on the suspected Uranus Star water bottles revealed that they were contaminated with harmful substances.
Oman’s Food Safety and Quality Centre advised consumers to immediately stop drinking and dispose of bottled water products under the brand Uranus Star.
Authorities have taken measures to ensure a total recall of the product from local markets and have banned its import until further notice.
Kuwait’s Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has also banned the sale of this brand, confiscating all remaining bottles in the country until further testing can determine its safety.
