VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN made an historic leap yesterday on the latest edition of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Ranking, released by the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) – the sport’s governing body.
The kingdom’s senior men’s volleyball national team climbed to their highest-ever classification in 39th overall after improving to 105.08 ranking points.
The Bahrainis were acknowledged by the FIVB for making the second-highest jump on the newest ranking, behind only Mexico who improved to 29th in the world.
The nationals’ best-ever world ranking position was confirmed by the Bahrain Volleyball Association, and it continued the kingdom’s rise in international men’s volleyball after it was placed 47th earlier this year – their previous all-time best.
Amongst teams in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), Bahrain went up to seventh, behind Japan, who are seventh in the world, Iran who are 16th in the world, and Qatar who are 21st in the world. Also ahead of the Bahrainis in the AVC are South Korea in 26th, China in 28th, and Australia in 33rd.
The Bahrainis, coached by Arnaud Josserand from France, have two major competitions to play before the end of the year. They include the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia and the inaugural edition of the Arab Challenge Cup in Jordan – both to be held next month. The national team’s results in both events will count towards the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Ranking.
