GOLF – MATTHEW Deakin won the Bill Brien Trophy at Awali Golf Club (AGC).
The Stableford competition officially kicked off AGC’s 2025-26 season. Deakin clinched first place with 39 points. He collected the neary on hole six and holed a 30-foot putt on the last hole to also take the side prize for longest putt.
Rehman Tipu finished as runner-up with the better 38 points, with Jasper Meinema taking third, also on 38 points.
Chaitanya Kodange claimed fourth with the better 37 points, while in fifth was Mohamed Sultan Faraj, scoring 37 points and a faultless front nine of nine consecutive pars. Andy Doherty finished sixth with a steady 36 points, while Gerard van Gerwen came seventh on 35 points, beating five others on countback.
Meanwhile, Susan Scott also came away with a prize for best lady, continuing the stellar performances she had last season.
At the end of play, AGC captain Steve Newall and AGC vice-captain Balbir Singh presented the winners their prizes.
