Indian actress Navya Nair was fined Australian$1,980 (BD 490) for carrying jasmine flowers into Australia.
The actress, on her way to an Onam event in Victoria, said she carried a 15cm-long jasmine flower garland gifted by her father just before her trip.
She was fined upon arrival at Melbourne International Airport, as she accidentally violated the country's biosecurity rules and failed to declare it at customs.
Australia imposes stringent biosecurity rules to protect its indigenous flora and fauna. Carrying foreign plants and animals is considered a crime and should only be brought in after proper declaration and inspection.
