A Turkish court fined a man for saving his ex-wife’s name as ‘chubby’ on his phone, along with sending threatening texts, which led to emotional abuse.
The husband had reportedly saved the wife’s name as “Tombik” on his phone, which translates to “chubby.” The court ruled that this, combined with threatening texts, had contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.
The couple were already involved in a bitter divorce before these instances came to light. The woman had filed for divorce, citing emotional distress, while the husband counter-sued, accusing her of infidelity.
It was revealed during the proceedings that he had sent her multiple hostile texts, including “Get away, I do not want to see you” and “Let the devil see your face.” He also reportedly demanded money from her for his father's surgery.
The court's investigations revealed that the infidelity accusation was false and that the husband's insults and financial pressure were more damaging to the breakdown of the marriage, ruling that his actions amounted to “emotional and economic violence.”
The divorce was finalised in favour of the wife, and the husband was ordered to pay his ex-wife material and moral compensation.
