ONE of Bahrain’s top healthcare groups is gearing up to organise a cyclothon later this month to raise awareness about diabetes, building on the success of a ‘record-breaking’ walkathon held over the weekend.
On Friday, Al Hilal Healthcare Group hosted the fourth edition of its ‘Defeat Diabetes’ Walkathon, in collaboration with Solidarity Bahrain, attracting more than 3,000 participants.
The ‘Defeat Diabetes’ Cyclothon will take place on November 28 at Zallaq.
“It’s heartening to see so many people come together for such an important cause,” said Al Hilal Healthcare Group chief executive Dr Sharath Chandran.
“Our mission is to raise awareness about diabetes and the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.
“We are proud to have such an enthusiastic response from the community, and Al Hilal Healthcare will continue to support and organise events like this in the future to help combat diabetes.”
The walkathon was organised in support of World Diabetes Day at Dohat Arad Park.
This year’s walkathon was the largest yet, attracting more than 3,000 participants, double the number from last year.
“It is a privilege to once again join forces with Al Hilal in support of such an important cause,” added Solidarity Bahrain deputy general manager Jai Prakash.
“The remarkable turnout this year is a clear indication of the growing awareness around diabetes.
“I am confident that events like this will inspire more people in Bahrain to adopt healthier lifestyles and take proactive steps towards managing their health.”
The event started with an energetic 30-minute aerobics session led by the Fitness First team.
Participants covered a distance of 3km through the park, donning branded T-shirts and caps as they showed their commitment to the cause.
It was held under the slogan ‘Together Let’s Defeat Diabetes’.
The walkathon was flagged off by Dr Chandran, alongside Philippines Embassy Ambassador-designate Gines Jaime Ricardo Gallaga, Mr Prakash and Al Hilal management, branch heads and staff, including strategy and business vice-president Asif Mohammad and finance manager Sahal Jamaluddin.
The event also received significant support from its sponsors, including Solidarity Bahrain, Amakin, Megamart, Bakemart, Pocari Sweat, Fitness First Bahrain, Radio Mirchi and others.
This year’s walkathon included families, fitness enthusiasts and health advocates.
Upon completing the walk, participants received participation certificates, complimentary full-body checkup coupons worth BD100 and snacks.
With its 10 branches across Bahrain, Al Hilal Healthcare Group continues its mission to promote health and wellness in the community.
