Procurement requests by government entities valued at approximately BD2 million were discussed at the fourth meeting of the ICT Governance Committee’s (ICTGC) third term.
Chaired by Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) deputy chief executive for operations and governance Dr Khalid Almutawa, the online meeting reviewed several government projects and procurement requests submitted by various entities.
The committee reviewed several requests including a specialised laboratory for the Bahrain Genome Project, which aims to automate the management of samples and genetic data through an advanced Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
The new system is expected to raise the efficiency of genomic analysis by improving sample tracking, streamlining workflows, and enhancing integration among laboratories, researchers, and physicians.
It will also connect with testing equipment and bioinformatics tools while strengthening data quality and security.
The committee also discussed a fixed asset system for the Education Ministry.
The project seeks to enhance the ministry’s asset management capabilities through a centralised digital system that addresses challenges associated with manual processes, improves accuracy in tracking and reporting, and supports better planning and maintenance.
In addition, the ICTGC reviewed two projects submitted by the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf Ministry.
The first is a call centre aimed at improving communication channels with customers and enhancing the efficiency of processing their requests and feedback.
The second is a surveillance cameras and control room infrastructure upgrade to strengthen the security of all stakeholders across the ministry’s facilities.
