Verdicts for 481 convicts who met the legal requirements and criteria have been replaced with alternative sentences.
Additionally, 111 inmates have been enrolled in the first phase of the Open Prisons Programme, marking a significant step in the kingdom’s efforts to promote rehabilitation and reintegration.
Accordingly, the total number of beneficiaries since the implementation of the penalties and alternative measures law has reached 10,195, including 454 enrolled in the Open Prisons Programme.
The statistics were revealed by director-general of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa yesterday.
He praised the Royal Decree granting special pardon and releasing several inmates convicted in various cases. He also conveyed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad for including beneficiaries of the Alternative Sentencing Programme among those covered by the Royal Pardon.
The Director-General commended the support and commitment of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in providing the conditions that enable beneficiaries to integrate into society.
He noted that the Alternative Sentences project, which upholds noble civilisational and humanitarian values, serves as a bright and honourable example of human rights in the kingdom.
He further highlighted that Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa’s follow-up on the mechanisms and procedures for implementing the project, in accordance with the standards of accuracy, humanity, and transparency, enables the project to make further progress and achieve its noble objectives.
Shaikh Khalid expressed his thanks and appreciation to government entities, institutions, and national companies for supporting rehabilitation and training programmes for beneficiaries.
