His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa won the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award for 2025 in the Arab Sports Personality category, in recognition of his contributions and influential efforts in developing sports and strengthening its developmental role at the regional and international levels.
The award was presented during a ceremony held in Dubai as part of the World Sports Summit, which is one of the largest global sports gatherings and is held under the slogan ‘Uniting the world through sport’. The summit was attended by a select group of sports leaders, decision-makers, experts and sports stars from around the world.
The awards ceremony was attended by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence; Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Fujairah; Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai; SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa; Shaikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Sports Council president; Fifa president Gianni Infantino; and a number of senior officials from various countries.
Shaikh Nasser received the award from Shaikh Ahmed.
Winning the Arab Sports Personality Award reflects Shaikh Nasser’s leadership skills and strategic vision, which have contributed to major advances in Bahraini sports through his continued support for developing the sports system, empowering youth, creating champions, and strengthening Bahrain’s presence at regional and international sporting events.
In the same context, Shaikh Nasser participated in the World Sports Summit as a keynote speaker in a panel discussion titled ‘Leadership from the Front Lines: Discipline of Champions’. During the session, he highlighted achievements in endurance sports and triathlons, as well as Bahrain’s sporting successes across various disciplines at regional and global levels.
Shaikh Nasser said that Bahrain’s sporting achievements are the result of the patronage and continued support of His Majesty, and the care and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Nasser noted that investment in youth and sports has been, and remains, a strategic choice that has enhanced Bahrain’s position on the regional and international sports map.
Shaikh Nasser commended the value of the summit for global sport and the major efforts made by the UAE under the leadership of Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Nasser also highlighted the prominent role of Shaikh Hamdan in organising and hosting major international sporting events, emphasising that these efforts and strategic vision have firmly established Dubai as a global centre for sport and a platform for dialogue, exchange of expertise and shaping the future of sport.
