Vietnam has introduced a landmark law that will limit unskippable video and image-based online advertisements to a maximum of five seconds on platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
Under the new regulations, digital service providers will be prohibited from forcing viewers to endure unskippable ads beyond the five-second mark. This is a significant reduction from the current industry standard, where unskippable ads typically range from seven to 30 seconds.
The law further mandates that online advertisements must feature visible icons and clear instructions. These tools will allow users to report illegal content, opt out of specific ad categories, or block inappropriate content entirely.
The new regulations are scheduled to take effect on February 15.
