Abraj Super Kings and Abraj Rocking Royals were both victorious on the latest match day of the sixth season of Abraj Premier League (APL6).
After winning the toss against JDs Avengers, Super Kings chose to field – a decision that proved decisive as they edged out a tense three-wicket victory in their APL6 qualifier.
Avengers posted a modest total of 123 for six in their 20 overs, built mainly around a steady 37 from captain Hozefa Petiwala and 22 from Safiyaaldin Sadiq, while several batters retired after short stays, preventing the innings from gaining late momentum.
Sushant Khar led the bowling effort with excellent figures of two for six, supported by Ajay Jain and Ankesh Mandowara, who kept the scoring rate in check during the middle overs and each took one wicket.
In reply, Super Kings chased carefully, losing wickets at regular intervals but staying close to the required rate.
Viral Desai played the defining knock, smashing 40 off just 21 balls with six fours and a six, while Ashwani Bhatia anchored the innings with an unbeaten 21.
Despite Petiwala’s impressive spell of three for 14 and Sapan Jain’s spell of two for seven, Super Kings reached 125 for seven in 19 overs to seal a hard-fought win.
Desai’s all-round brilliance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Match award.
Meanwhile, Rocking Royals produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat MJ Yodhas by 47 runs in their APL6 eliminator.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Rocking Royals posted a competitive 145 for six in their 20 overs.
Their innings were built on brisk middle-order contributions, led by Rakesh Kumar’s attacking of 25 off 13 balls, Ashwani’s quick 16 from eight deliveries, and a steady unbeaten 23 from wicketkeeper Akhil Jain.
Prem Devassy and Amit Maity led the bowling effort with excellent figures of two for 13 and two for 15, supported by Sagar K and Ratnesh Singh, who each took one wicket.
In reply, Yodhas struggled from the outset against disciplined and incisive bowling.
Early breakthroughs by Anil Verma at two for seven and Vignesh US at two for nine reduced them to 24 for four, putting the chase firmly out of reach.
Amit Maity attempted a counterattack with a fighting 35, while Sagar K and Singh added 13 and 15, but support was minimal at the other end.
The decisive blow came from Ashwani Pratap, who delivered a superb spell of four wickets for just six runs, tearing through the lower order.
Yodhas were eventually bowled out for 98 in 16.4 overs, sealing a convincing victory and progression for Rocking Royals.
Jain’s all-round brilliance earned him the MVP of the Match award.
