HORSERACING – As part of the partnership agreement between Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) and Safa, the kingdom’s leading national carbon offsetting platform, the first joint initiative between the two entities was launched through the application of carbon offsetting standards for emissions resulting from the transportation of international horses that participated in the Bahrain International Trophy last November.
The initiative included the calculation and offsetting of carbon emissions generated by the air transport of horses from various countries around the world to Bahrain, noting that air travel is considered one of the primary sources of carbon emissions.
This carbon offsetting initiative aligns with REHC’s commitment to national responsibility and environmental sustainability, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint across its various operational activities.
In this context, REHC is keen to enhance environmental awareness within the sporting community by adopting and implementing sustainable standards and practices in the horseracing sector.
This initiative is in line with the kingdom’s national strategy to combat climate change and reduce emissions, and supports national efforts aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
The initiative represents a qualitative and pioneering step in the application of best environmental sustainability practices within the horseracing sector.
Through its cooperation with Safa, REHC has successfully launched this initiative, placing the kingdom among the leading countries integrating sustainability into international horseracing and reducing carbon emissions, reflecting the kingdom’s notable progress in environmental sustainability at the international level.
The success of the initiative constitutes a pivotal step towards activating further programmes and initiatives included within the co-operation agreement between REHC and Safa.
