TENNIS – LI Mengxiao from China and Muhamad Eyad Saleem from Syria were both crowned singles champions of the ATF Bahrain 14-and-Under Category A West Asia tournament, which came to a close at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
Li secured the girls’ singles crown after defeating Ailin Mohammadian Fard from Iran 6-3, 6-2 in their final, while Muhamad won the boys’ singles title with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 triumph over Him Wong from Hong Kong in their decider.
Meanwhile, Ailin and Him made up for their losses in their singles finals by taking their respective doubles titles.
Ailin won the girls’ doubles crown alongside playing partner Sophie Himmelreich from Russia after beating Sulgun Ishankuliyeva from Turkmenistan and Ayasophia Ghokashaw from Jordan 6-3, 6-3.
Him teamed up with Puneeth Manohar from India to defeat Muhamad and Hamza Elmansoury from Saudi Arabia 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the boys’ doubles final.
At the end of the tournament, the winners were presented their respective medals by BTF president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and BTF secretary general Fuad Al Rowaie.
Shaikh Abdulaziz praised the outstanding level of the competition and congratulated the winning players on their success.
