I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the installation of dog waste disposal stations across Amwaj Islands. This thoughtful step shows a clear commitment to keeping public spaces clean while encouraging responsible pet ownership in the community. The stations are supported by simple signs that inform and remind pet owners of their duties. This practical approach helps address a common issue in shared areas. By making it easier to clean up after pets, the project improves the look of the island and supports a cleaner, healthier environment for residents and visitors.
I also wish to recognise the joint efforts of the Amwaj Islands Central Owners Association and Jetpet Global. This partnership shows how local groups and businesses can work together to bring real and lasting benefits to the community. Such actions set a strong example for other communities in Bahrain and beyond. I hope this effort continues to grow and encourages more projects that focus on care for the environment and the well-being of everyone who lives in or visits the islands.
At the same time, there is another issue that needs attention. Yesterday, I saw an abandoned Shih Tzu trying to cross a busy road. The dog looked scared and confused, clearly left on its own. It was upsetting to watch, and sadly, this is not a rare situation. Animal abandonment is still a serious problem in our community.
Pets are not something to be discarded when they become inconvenient. They depend on their owners for care, safety, and love.
What I witnessed was a clear reminder that while we focus on cleanliness, we must also address responsible pet ownership.
I believe that more should be done to raise awareness about animal welfare. Public education campaigns, stricter rules against abandonment, and support for pet owners who may be struggling could all help reduce this issue.
Keeping our city clean is important, but so is treating animals with care and respect. These two things go hand in hand. As a community, we should aim to do both—maintain clean surroundings and ensure that pets are treated responsibly.
