Speaking at the annual Congressional Picnic, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (May 19) said the war with Iran would end “very quickly” and that the country wants "to make a deal so badly."
“We're going to end that war very quickly. They want to make a deal so badly, they're tired of this. This should have happened for 47 years. Somebody should have done something about it. And it's going to happen and it's going to happen fast. And you're going to see oil prices plummet. They're going to come down. There's so much oil out there. They're going to come plummeting down. // We've done a hell of a job. And we're... I think we're going to be finished with that very quickly. And they won't have a nuclear weapon. And hopefully we're going to get it done in a very nice manner.”
He added that a resolution would push oil prices lower and emphasised that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remained a priority.
At the same event, Trump outlined plans for a UFC fight on the White House grounds, describing it as a large public spectacle.
The Congressional Picnic is an annual White House tradition bringing together members of Congress, Cabinet officials and their families.
