The Northern Governorate and the Muharraq Governorate organised Hiya Biya events where scores of children sparkled in their traditional attire.
The Northern Governorate organised the event at Malkiya Beach, in co-operation with civil society organisations, community committees and volunteer groups, with wide participation from residents and children.
The event aimed to revive Bahraini folk traditions and reinforce community values associated with national identity. The atmosphere was filled with joy and authentic Bahraini customs, as children threw Hiya Biya into the sea amidst enthusiastic participation from the audience, accompanied by traditional songs associated with the occasion.
The Muharraq Governorate organised the Hiya Biya popular heritage festival on the Al Shurooq coast in Sama Bay Park in Galali, in the presence of Governor Salman Bin Hindi.
The event witnessed a large participation of locals, residents and visitors who flocked to enjoy the heritage atmosphere and popular activities accompanying the festival.
The festival included heritage activities that evoked the atmosphere of the beautiful past, including distributing Hiya Biya plants to children, presenting folk songs and chants and traditional foods, in addition to the children’s participation in throwing Hiya Biya on the coast amidst an atmosphere full of joy and interaction.
