Denmark's team doctor, Morten Boesen, reported that Christian Eriksen is "doing well" and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon after collapsing during a friendly match against Ukraine. The incident occurred in the 65th minute at the Odense Isstadion, prompting an immediate medical response. Eriksen, 34, who plays for Wolfsburg, was seen holding his chest and was then taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Following the collapse, Boesen provided an update on Denmark's official social media, indicating that Eriksen was in good spirits, with family by his side. He emphasised that the medical staff remained in close contact with the players and staff.
Eriksen, who has a history of cardiac issues, was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) after a cardiac arrest in a Euro 2020 match against Finland.
At the time of the incident, Denmark was leading Ukraine 2-1, and medical teams from both sides responded swiftly, resulting in the match being abandoned.
Boesen mentioned that Eriksen was briefly unconscious but quickly regained consciousness and walked off the pitch independently.
Messages of support flooded in from Eriksen's former clubs, including Manchester United, Brentford, and Tottenham Hotspur, while Wolfsburg confirmed they were in touch with the Danish Football Association regarding his condition.
Eriksen had made 34 appearances for Wolfsburg during the 2025-26 season and had participated in 151 matches for Denmark since his debut in 2010. Denmark, unfortunately, did not qualify for the upcoming World Cup.
