A Kuwaiti student was killed after being stabbed multiple times during a suspected robbery attempt in the US city of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Saeed Ali Al Tabtabai, 27, was found inside his vehicle suffering from multiple stab wounds on June 10.
Emergency responders attended the scene, but the victim later died from his injuries. His family was subsequently informed.
Police later identified and arrested 51-year-old David Lawrence as a suspect on Thursday, June 18. He faces multiple charges, including murder and armed robbery involving a bladed weapon during the attempted theft.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and found that Al Tabtabai had travelled with the suspect in his car before the killing.
Footage showed him picking up Lawrence from a hotel at 3.50am. The pair then stopped at a petrol station, where Lawrence was seen buying cigarettes and returning to the victim's vehicle, before they drove to the scene where Al Tabtabai was later found.
Ring camera footage captured a car alarm going off at around 4.41am, with Lawrence allegedly seen walking away. Mobile phone records show the victim's phone left the scene shortly after.
Investigators said the man later returned to the hotel that morning, wearing the same clothing, now stained with blood, with a towel wrapped around his hand and forearm.
The case is under investigation as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
