Saudi farms are recording strong production of locally grown melon varieties during the summer harvest season, with annual output exceeding 70,500 tons, thanks to modern farming technologies that have improved productivity and quality, boosting farmers’ returns, supporting food security, and generating positive economic impact, according to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
Melon cultivation is concentrated in Qassim, Madinah, Hail, Najran, Al-Jouf, Eastern and Tabuk regions. Several varieties include Canary melon, hybrid Mangawi, hybrid Dalia, Honeydew, and Golden Bell.
The ministry continues to support farmers through technical guidance, financing, and advanced agricultural technologies, while strengthening supply chains and marketing channels to facilitate access to local produce. It also promotes awareness of seasonal fruits, encourages consumption of national products, and supports the marketing of locally grown fruit to increase farmers’ incomes.
