The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) has strongly condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea, calling them a blatant aggression and a grave violation of regional and international maritime security.
In a statement issued yesterday, the OIC said the attacks jeopardise global food and energy supply chains and pose a direct threat to international peace and security in clear violation of international law.
The Jeddah-based organisation called on the international community to take firm action to halt these violations, while reaffirming its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supporting all measures taken by the kingdom to protect its security and interests.
It also called for the enforcement of the UN Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen and the rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi strongly condemned the Houthi terrorist attack, describing it as an extension of the militia’s hostile behaviour and a flagrant violation of international law and the rules governing freedom of navigation at sea.
