VOLLEYBALL – The second Arab Youth Volleyball Championship gets underway today in the kingdom with a revised fixture schedule featuring the six youth men’s national teams that will be battling for the coveted crown.
Hosts Bahrain are joined in the regional event by defending champions Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Algeria, Kuwait, and Egypt.
They will be playing a single round-robin over seven gamedays instead of the originally planned five.
A new match schedule was released last night by the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) and the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA).
All fixtures are to be held at Isa Bin Rashid Volleyball Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
The kingdom’s volleyball fans are being invited by the BVA and AVA to attend and enjoy the action.
Bahrain open their medal bid at home tonight against Jordan at 7pm.
It will be preceded by one other game between Kuwait and Egypt at 5pm.
Bahrain will next face off against Algeria tomorrow before taking on Kuwait on Wednesday.
They then play their penultimate assignment against Saudi on Friday and then complete their campaign on Sunday next week against Egypt on the championship’s concluding night.
All of the Bahrainis’ games are scheduled for 7pm starts.
Prior to this evening’s start of play, representatives from the participating squads took part in the pre-tournament technical meeting, where all matters related to the competition were discussed, along with the presentation of national teams’ uniforms in each match.
Bahrain have a 15-player national team in their Arab title bid.
They are coached by veteran tactician Yusuf Khalifa, and their roster includes outside hitters Sayed Hasan Alabbar, Ebrahim Alhamar, Abdulla Aljaboori, Mohamed Haram, and skipper Nasralla Haram; opposite spikers Karrar Yaqoob, Mohammed Kadhem, and Hadi Hussain; middle blockers Ammar Ebrahim, Mustafa Ebrahim, and Ali Abdulla; setters Ahmed Husain and Hussain Albalooshi; and liberos Hadi Ahmed and Abbas Mohamed.
