TENNIS – Bahrain’s Hashim Altoobli was crowned champion of the cadet boys’ singles category at the Obert d’Estiu Head Tour-Tennis Planet Tenia tournament, held in Spain.
The competition was organised by Tennis Planet/Monty Tour, one of the country’s most prominent tennis circuits for youth.
Hashim won his title after defeating fellow-Bahraini Talal Al Sayed 6-3, 6-2 in the final.
In the semi-finals, Hashim cruised past Adrian Martinez Vilchez of Spain 6-0, 6-0, while in the quarters he ousted Joel Torras Pascual, also from Spain, with the same score line.
Hashim began his title bid with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Spaniard Carles Plana Quiros.
The tournament featured wide participation from players of various nationalities and age groups.
Hashim and Talal participated in the event as part of the national team’s ongoing overseas training camp in Spain, organised by the BTF.
Hashim’s achievement is a continuation of the BTF’s focus on Bahrain’s youth players, who are a top priority within the BTF’s programmes in preparing a new generation capable of representing the kingdom in regional, continental, and international competitions.
