HORSERACING – Isaac Newton won the Group Three Bahrain Turf Club Desmond Stakes last night at Leopardstown Racecourse in Ireland.
The event marked the third leg of this year’s Dublin to Bahrain Race Series.
Isaac Newton triumphed in the eight-furlong ride, which was open to three-year-olds and older while offering more than 41,000 Euros to the winner.
Owned by Derrick Smith/Mrs John Magnier/Michael Tabor/Westerberg, the three-year-old Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was ridden yesterday by jockey Ryan Moore.
He maintained a strong pace behind the leaders early on but pushed towards the front one furlong out.
He eventually took over in first place as he charged to the finish and was well in the lead inside the final 100 yards, keeping on well until the end.
Isaac Newton took the victory with a length-and-a-quarter’s gap from runner-up Needle Match, competing for owner Saeed Suhail, trainer William Haggas, and jockey Tom Marquand.
Audience finished in third place for Hamad Rashed Bin Ghedayer, David O’Meara, and Colin Keane.
Completing the eight-runner field from fourth through last, respectively, were Sparan Nua, Cowardofthecounty, Chicago Critic, Tokenomics, and Al Haarith.
In attendance during the awarding ceremony for yesterday’s Bahrain Turf Club Desmond Stakes was Bahrain Turf Club racing and international relations director Ed Veale.
The Dublin to Bahrain Race Series is in its fourth edition in 2026, and it features multiple events at Leopardstown contested by top-class horses from around the world.
Earlier winners from this year’s series included Loughrea in the 0-90 Dublin to Bahrain Handicap, competing for owner Mrs C Holohan and trainer Andrew Slattery, whose son Andrew Joseph Slattery was the jockey; and Dark Viper in the Dublin to Bahrain Race Series Handicap, racing for Dan Kiely, Mrs John Harrington, and Shane Foley.
