HORSERACING – Ebrahim Nader made history after becoming the first-ever Bahraini jockey to win a horserace in the UK after taking the DragonBet/Martin Davies Handicap at Ffos Las Racecourse in Wales on Tuesday night.
Prime Minister’s Court Minister and Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated Nader on his success.
Shaikh Isa affirmed that his achievement reflects the outcomes of the continued support extended to Bahrain’s sports sector, particularly equestrianism and horseracing, by His Majesty King Hamad, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which have contributed to strengthening the kingdom’s presence in regional and international sporting arenas.
Shaikh Isa commended Nader on his outstanding performance and wished him continued success in future competitions. He expressed his pride in this achievement, noting that it reflects Bahrain’s high standing in equestrian sports and horseracing.
Shaikh Isa also commended the continued development of the kingdom’s horseracing sector and the achievements it has attained at various levels.
Nader competed in the seven-and-a-half-furlong race riding six-year-old bay gelding Distinct Spirit, owned by Mr and Mrs G Middlebrook and trained by Daniel and Claire Kubler.
He steered Distinct Spirit to the lead inside the final furlong to finish strong and take the win with a length-and-three-quarter’s gap from runner-up Flyta, competing for Paul Cafferty and Melissa Cooke, Mark Loughnane, and Rob Hornby; while Sofian came third for Nikki Evans Racing, Nikki Evans, and Ryan Kavanagh.
Meanwhile, REHC High Committee member and CEO Yusuf Buheji affirmed that Nader’s outstanding triumph embodies the care and attention given to Bahraini sports, particularly equestrian sports and horseracing, by His Majesty and the directives of HRH Prince Salman.
Buheji noted the significant efforts and continuous attention given to the sport by Shaikh Isa.
Buheji congratulated Nader on his success, which emphasises the importance of the development programmes implemented by the Bahrain Jockey Foundation in training and developing the kingdom’s riders, as they aim to compete at the highest international levels.
