HANDBALL – BAHRAIN’S youth men’s handball national team defeated their counterparts from Kuwait 26-24 in a friendly game played as part of their ongoing overseas training camp in Kuwait City.
The Bahrainis are in this period of preparation for the 11th AHF Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship, which is set to take place from August 20 to 31 in Amman, Jordan.
The tournament also serves as the AHF qualification event for the 12th IHF Men’s Youth Handball World Championship, with the top four teams securing their places in the worlds, taking place July 29 to August 9 in 2027.
The nationals trailed 12-13 at the end of the first half in their tune-up with Kuwait but roared back over the final 30 minutes to eke out the result.
The contest was the first of two friendlies scheduled for Bahrain during their week-long camp.
The upcoming Asian Handball Federation (AHF) under-19 tournament is set to feature 12 countries from across the continent.
The Bahrainis are in Group A for the preliminary round alongside defending champions Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Chinese Taipei, and Uzbekistan. Group B features South Korea, Kuwait, Iran, Syria, India, and hosts Jordan.
Bahrain’s youth men’s squad are coached by Egyptian tactician Mohamed Abdelrahman Soliman. They are participating in the event for the 10th time.
The Bahrainis had won Asian youth gold twice in the past – on back-to-back occasions in 2016 and in 2018 – and also took the bronze medals in 2010. Aside from their podium appearances, Bahrain had placed in the top five in each of their six other appearances.
