A Lebanese woman's bid to obtain a driving licence in Kuwait has ended in deportation proceedings after authorities discovered she had forged a university degree to meet the eligibility criteria.
The fraud was uncovered following a confidential tip-off that the expatriate, who is in her 30s, had submitted a fake degree as part of her driving licence application, according to Arab Times Kuwait.
Investigations revealed that the certificate was forged several years ago and had also been used to alter her official employment status.
Upon questioning, the woman confessed to the crime, telling investigators she resorted to fraud because she only held a high school diploma, which disqualified her from applying.
Under Kuwaiti regulations, expatriates applying for a driving licence must meet strict criteria, including a minimum of two years' residency, a university degree, and a minimum monthly salary of KD600, though exemptions exist for specific professions.
The woman has been referred to the Deportation Department as legal proceedings continue.
