Five falcons were sold for a total of SAR223,000 on the fifth night of this year's International Falcon Breeders Auction, organised by the National Center for Falcons in Malham, north of Riyadh.
The auction, which brings together leading falcon breeding farms from around the world, will run through August 25, attracting falconers and visitors interested in the heritage and culture surrounding falconry.
The evening began with the sale of a pure gyr falcon chick from a Slovenian farm. Bidding opened at SAR50,000 before the falcon was sold for SAR61,000.
The second falcon, a gyr-saker chick from a Spanish farm, sold for SAR40,000. A Canadian farm then presented the third falcon, a mottled gyr chick, which sold for SAR42,000.
The fourth falcon, another gyr-saker chick from a Spanish farm, sold for SAR30,000. The evening concluded with a gyr-tiercel chick from an Irish farm, which fetched SAR50,000.
The auction provides a trusted and unique platform for elite falcons from around the world through a fast-paced, live competitive bidding process that brings together Saudi and international falconers, breeders and enthusiasts.
The event is being broadcast on television channels covering the auction, as well as through live streams on the National Center for Falcons’ social media accounts.
