HORSERACING – Bahrain’s champion jockey Ebrahim Nader made it three wins on the trot over the past fortnight in the UK, with another stellar ride on a Daniel and Claire Kubler-trained contender.
Competing on Percy’s Lad for owner Alan Kerr, Nader steered the eight-year-old chestnut gelding to victory in the Unibet Support Safer Gambling Handicap (Division One) race at Kempton Park.
Battling against a high-quality field of 11 runners over seven furlongs, Percy’s Lad pressed the leader and was in the front two furlongs out.
He kept on well nearing the finish, but faced a mounting challenge from the pack.
Nader and Percy’s Lad did enough to hold on to their advantage and claim their impressive win by a short head from runner-up Sea Founder, racing for owners E Kelly, J Blake, and Partners, trainer Richard Hughes, and jockey Finley Marsh.
Taking third was Peter The Wolf for Jim and Claire Limited, Warren Greatrex, and Edward Greatrex.
Nader’s triumph with Percy’s Lad followed his back-to-back wins riding Moonswept and Distinct Spirit, both trained by the Kublers.
Nader and Moonswept won the Fitzdares Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at England’s Royal Windsor Racecourse earlier this week, competing for owners Mr and Mrs G Middlebrook.
Prior to that, Nader claimed his historic maiden victory in the UK last month at Ffos Las Racecourse in Wales, powering Distinct Spirit – also owned by the Middlebrooks – to first place in the DragonBet/Martin Davies Handicap.
Nader’s fine string of results follows his participation in the Jockeys’ Fund Training Programme – an initiative of the Bahrain Turf Club that provides Bahraini jockeys with valuable training and race-riding opportunities in the UK.
The programme forms part of the club’s commitment to developing Bahraini riding talent by providing international experience and exposure to some of the world’s leading racing environments.
