Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has stepped in to fund life-saving medical care for a young Jordanian girl suffering from spinal muscular atrophy.
The Dubai Ruler will cover the full cost of treatment for 16-month-old Katia Abu Al-Saud at Al Jalila Children's Hospital in Dubai.
Her family's plea went viral after they revealed they could not afford the gene therapy injection, which costs $2.4 million (approx. BD900,000) and is unavailable in Jordan. The critical medication must be administered before she turns two.
The intervention offers fresh hope to her family as they race against time to save her life.
