An eight-year-old boy has died after suffering a fatal electric shock from a faulty water cooler near a park in Al Ain, UAE.
Walid Khaled, an Arab expatriate child, was playing at a neighbourhood park with friends and his older brother when he saw another child approach the water cooler and suddenly collapse.
“Walid thought it might have been a prank and went closer to check on him,” the boy's nine-year-old brother, Ahmed, told local media.
Ahmed reached out towards the fallen child and felt a jolt of electricity, pulling his hand back just in time. The younger boy then touched the cooler, receiving an electric shock that caused him to collapse.
Ahmed alerted their parents, who rushed to the scene to find Walid unresponsive. Emergency services were called, but hospital staff were unable to revive him.
Faculty and classmates at Walid's school mourned his passing, describing him as polite, kind-hearted, and well-liked.
The tragedy has prompted urgent warnings regarding the dangers of improperly maintained electrical equipment in public areas.
