The region is bracing itself for further torrential rain due to Typhoon Saudel.
The video showed a man standing with an umbrella and watching the structure as it crumbled into the water within seconds.
Reuters confirmed the location from buildings, water body and vegetation which matched archival and satellite images. Corroborating video also showed the same building collapsing. The date of the footage was confirmed by local media reports of the incident.
The Xianyou county media centre reported on September 3 that a building collapsed into flood waters after continuous heavy rainfall, while the Putian Meteorological Observatory issued a red alert for a storm on Thursday morning.
Severe downpours linked to Saudel have triggered flooding in urban and rural areas, and local authorities have shut schools, suspended public transport and enforced emergency flood protocols across multiple coastal areas.
