Bahrain has strongly condemned and denounced the renewed terrorist attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia, targeting several civilian, economic, and vital facilities and sites in Saudi Arabia, injuring civilians, including women and children.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry affirmed that these attacks, along with the continued targeting of commercial vessels and the threat to the freedom and safety of international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, represent a dangerous escalation, a flagrant violation of the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and a blatant challenge to the relevant Security Council resolutions. Foremost among them are Resolution 2216 and Resolution 2817, which called for an end to all support for armed groups in the region and a halt to actions aimed at interfering with maritime trade.
The ministry affirmed Bahrain's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, and its complete support for all measures taken to preserve its sovereignty, security and stability, and to protect its citizens and residents, its territory and vital facilities. It praised the efficiency and vigilance of the Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces in confronting these attacks and protecting civilian lives, and affirmed that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of Bahrain and all the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, based on the deep-rooted historical ties, and the GCC Joint Defence Agreement. It also expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for all those injured.
The ministry stressed Bahrain's call upon the international community, particularly the Security Council, to fulfil its responsibilities and take a firm stance to deter these heinous terrorist attacks, hold their perpetrators accountable, and implement relevant Security Council resolutions. This is essential for maintaining regional and international security and stability, protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, ensuring the freedom and safety of international navigation, and safeguarding energy supplies and global trade. As a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Bahrain will continue to work with its fellow GCC members and international partners to ensure a decisive international response. It appreciates the Security Council members' condemnation of these attacks and calls for translating that condemnation into concrete actions.
The ministry reiterated Bahrain's appreciation for the diplomatic, humanitarian and development efforts led by Saudi Arabia in support of reaching a comprehensive and sustainable Yemeni-led political solution to the crisis in the Republic of Yemen. It affirmed Bahrain's support for the legitimate Yemeni government and the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General, in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and the relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216, in a manner that preserves the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen, and fulfils the aspirations of its people for security, stability and prosperity.
The ministry reiterated Bahrain's firm stance in rejecting violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and its support for everything that preserves the security and stability of the region, the safety of international navigation, and the security of energy supplies.
