Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) Governor Khalid Humaidan chaired the 87th GCC Central Bank Governors Committee meeting in the kingdom.
The session was attended by GCC secretary-general Jassim Al Budaiwi, alongside central bank governors from across the member states, as part of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th Session of the GCC.
Addressing the forum, Mr Humaidan commended the strong commitment of member nations to deepening regional co-ordination, stressing that central bank co-operation remains crucial to maintaining monetary and financial stability.
He also pointed to the rapid evolution of the GCC’s banking and financial sector, underlining its critical role in driving economic growth and supporting sustainable development.
Discussions focused on key joint initiatives to boost economic integration, with governors reviewing progress on the regional payment systems implementation plan and exploring ways to enhance joint supervision and oversight across the banking sector.
The committee also examined strategies to align financial technology initiatives, bolster the exchange of banking cybersecurity intelligence across member states, and co-ordinate ongoing efforts to combat money laundering and counter the financing of terrorism.
