Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has clinched three major honours at the 2026 Skytrax World Airport Awards as passenger traffic returned to normal levels.
BIA was named the ‘World’s Best Airport (5–10 million passengers)’ for the second consecutive year, ‘Best Airport Staff in the Middle East’ for the fourth time, and ‘Cleanest Airport in the Middle East’ for the second year running.
In the global standings, BIA placed 20th among the World’s Top 100 Airports – making it one of the top three highest-ranked hubs in the region – and finished fourth worldwide among cleanest airports handling up to 30m passengers annually.
Commenting on the wins, Gulf Air Group chairman Khalid Hussain Taqi said: “Bahrain International Airport’s performance across the Skytrax awards and rankings reinforces our strategy to position the airport as a high-performing, passenger-focused gateway and a key enabler of the kingdom’s connectivity with the world.”
BAC chief executive officer Ahmed Mohamed Janahi highlighted the efforts of the airport’s teams, in co-operation with strategic partners, during a period of changing passenger demand, noting that their high level of professionalism, teamwork and unwavering commitment to excellence, even under the most demanding circumstances, enabled the airport to maintain smooth operations and consistent service standards as passenger traffic returned to normal levels.
The Skytrax awards are determined by an annual global passenger satisfaction survey evaluating the entire traveller experience, from check-in and security to retail, dining, and gate departures.
