Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa chaired the 315th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure.
Within the framework of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council, the committee praised the outcomes of the 29th meeting of GCC ministers and officials responsible for municipal affairs, which was held in Bahrain last week, with the participation of the GCC ministers and officials concerned with municipal affairs and in the presence of the GCC Secretary-General.
The meeting concluded with constructive decisions and recommendations that contribute to advancing joint GCC municipal work and supporting sustainable development goals.
The committee highlighted the importance of major development projects and their prompt implementation in accordance with approved plans. It reviewed the latest developments regarding the tender for implementing the first phase of the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Highway Development Project, based on a briefing presented by the Works Minister.
The committee congratulated the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry and Bahrain Airport Company on the airport receiving three awards at the 2026 Skytrax World Airport Awards, coinciding with the return of passenger traffic to normal levels.
The committee noted that the achievement reflects the operational efficiency of this vital facility and the efforts made to maintain the highest standards of quality and excellence in passenger services.
It welcomed the development by the Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) and the Industry and Commerce Ministry of a package of advanced digital government services, as part of the government’s continued efforts and accelerated steps towards comprehensive digital transformation across all its services, to streamline procedures and provide citizens with the best services efficiently and conveniently.
The committee discussed the items on its agenda. It approved a proposal on a mechanism for reviewing the application of the guideline for development in heritage and historical areas during the preliminary approval stage of building permit procedures.
It reviewed progress in the Manama Suq Development Project (Historic Area), including the implementation plan for the Manama Squares Project, the implementation plan for property surveying, the development of main streets, and the development of tourism destinations and cultural and heritage projects.
The committee followed up on options for developing and improving the efficiency of the sewage network in the Central Manama Suq area.
The committee approved a number of solutions to ensure the sustainable availability of building materials in local markets in the medium and long term.
The committee was also briefed on developments regarding the following:
1. Legislation related to the work of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure.
2. Implementation of the National Waste Management Strategy.
3. Means to enhance civil protection in facilities and residences.
