Automatic insulin pumps have been handed over to the Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS) by the Rotary Club of Seef for distribution to children who are in need of the devices.
The handover was attended by Rotary Club of Seef president Mohamed Al Rayes, BDS vice president Dr Mariam Alhajeri, as well as children and their parents who received the pumps.
Supreme Council for Health (SCH) chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa praised the role of local organisations in supporting people with the condition, which affects around 15 per cent of the population in Bahrain.
Dr Alhajeri said the children were selected by their hospital therapists based on need and pump availability, with their progress monitored through regular follow-ups.
For children with diabetes, the pumps can make daily management easier by providing precise doses of insulin throughout the day and reducing the need for repeated injections.
