Latest regional developments and their implications for security and stability were reviewed as the GCC Ministerial Council Co-ordination Meeting was held at Bahrain’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister and chairman of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, with the participation of GCC foreign ministers, and GCC Secretary-General Jassem Albudaiwi.
The foreign ministers reviewed the items on the meeting’s agenda, as well as issues scheduled to be addressed during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and the joint GCC ministerial meetings with a number of countries and international groupings.
They also reviewed areas of co-operation and co-ordination in addressing current challenges.
The meeting was attended by Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Jamal Faris Al Rowaiei, Foreign Ministry Director-General of Bilateral Relations Shaikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Khalifa, Chief of the Co-ordination and Follow-up Sector Saeed Abdulkhaliq Saeed and the accompanying delegation of the Foreign Minister.
Dr Al Zayani separately met Cho Hyun, South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.
The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen co-operation between Bahrain and South Korea in a manner that serves their shared interests and objectives, as the two countries mark 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. They also discussed a number of issues related to bilateral relations and co-ordination between the two countries at international forums.
The meeting also addressed current regional and international developments, as well as international efforts to restore maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab and maintain regional security and stability.
