Bahrain’s Tulu-speaking community recently gathered in Manama to celebrate the language being granted additional official state language status.
The event, staged at Papillon Hall, was graced by Indian expatriate group Tulu Koota Bahrain and NRI Forum Karnataka Bahrain president Rajkumar Bhaskar.
Expressing gratitude to the Karnataka state government and chief minister DK Shivakumar on the occasion, he recounted politicians Shivaraj Thangadagi and Ashok Rai’s recent visit to the kingdom.
During the meeting, the Tulu community in Bahrain had urged them to consider granting official status to the Tulu language. “Finally, our dream has come true,” Mr Bhaskar remarked. Bahrain is home to a thriving Tulu-speaking diaspora, comprising more than 15,000 members.
