A young Bahraini student is turning his passion for programming and modern technology into practical innovations, with guidance from his mathematics teacher.
Faris Sharaf, a student at Bilad Al Qadeem Primary Intermediate Boys School, was encouraged by his teacher Mohammad Al Awainati to join the school’s ‘Innovation Ambassadors’ club, where he has been developing a range of smart projects.
According to Mr Al Awainati, the initiative inspired Faris to put his programming skills into practice by working with Arduino boards, open-source microcontrollers commonly used to build interactive electronic projects and automated systems.
“He conducted several experiments that strengthened his ability to bridge the gap between programming and practical application, while also honing his logical thinking, design and problem-solving skills,” the teacher said.
Faris expressed his gratitude to his teacher for supporting his interest in technology and described his ‘smart school display’ as one of his most notable creations.
The project uses programming to automatically display a student’s name and class within the school. He has also developed a ‘smart warning light’ designed for use at roadworks.
“I designed a lighting system to signal ongoing work and alert pedestrians and drivers,” Faris explained.
“I personally benefited from working on this project, as it helped me improve my skills in designing and programming electronic systems.”
The budding inventor now hopes to continue experimenting with technology and developing new projects. Looking ahead, Faris also has his sights set on participating in the World Robot Olympiad, an international robotics competition for young people.
