A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Industry and Commerce Ministry and Bahrain-based sustainability solutions provider SAFA to accelerate the transition towards a greener, more sustainable industrial sector. The agreement aims to enhance the environmental performance of manufacturers across the kingdom through innovative technologies and data-driven solutions.
The MoU was signed by Under-Secretary Eman Al Doseri and SAFA chief executive officer Talal Al Araifi, in the presence of Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the inaugural Made in GCC Forum and Exhibition at Exhibition World Bahrain.
Under the agreement, SAFA will support the development of the ministry’s Green Factory Seal - an initiative launched in December 2023 under the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022–2026) to encourage eco-friendly operational practices and align with Bahrain’s goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
The partnership focuses heavily on measuring, managing, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints using SAFA’s advanced digital platform. It will also explore practical solutions for decarbonisation, including emissions reduction, waste management, water conservation, and carbon offsetting across industrial operations.
Additionally, the two entities will collaborate on capacity building by organising specialised training workshops and awareness programmes. These initiatives aim to strengthen Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices and empower local manufacturers to use data for continuous operational improvement.
“We support industrial establishments in adopting more sustainable practices that improve their efficiency and competitiveness,” said Mr Fakhro. “Through this MoU, we aim to develop the Green Factory Seal initiative and draw on technology and specialist expertise to help manufacturers measure and manage their emissions.”
Mr Al Araifi added: “This memorandum marks an important milestone in SAFA’s journey to empower the industrial sector to understand and proactively manage its environmental impact. Sustainability is not merely a regulatory obligation, but a genuine opportunity to enhance operational efficiency and long-term competitiveness.”
