Bahrain-Russia relations are based on longstanding friendship, trust and mutual respect, Russian Ambassador Dr Alexey Skosyrev said in an exclusive interview with our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
“The distinguished relationship between His Majesty King Hamad and Russian President Vladimir Putin provides a strong foundation for expanding co-operation in various fields,” he noted.
“Bahraini investments in joint projects with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) amounted to approximately $200 million,” he added, pointing out that Russian companies were interested in entering the Bahraini market and using the kingdom as a gateway to other regional markets.
He explained that work was under way to prepare a mutual visa exemption agreement, which would help boost tourism and facilitate travel for businessmen.
Bahrain received approximately 21,700 Russian tourists in 2025, while around 8,000 Bahrainis visited Russia, he said. The number of university places allocated to Bahraini students at Russian universities also increased to 19 in 2026.
The Russian ambassador described his meeting with His Majesty at Sakhir Palace as a great honour and a cherished memory, adding that Bahrain had become his second home.
