At least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the Saudi Civil Aviation authority said early this morning.
Four of the fatalities were Saudi nationals and eight foreigners, it said.
The authority said among those killed were two Bangladeshi nationals, one each from the US, Egypt, Argentina, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
Operations at the airport have been temporarily suspended pending the completion of damage assessment and verification of the safety of airport facilities, in co-ordination with the relevant authorities, the civil aviation authority announced.
Further updates will be announced later, it said.
The authority described the Houthi attack on the airport as ‘continued blatant assaults targeting civil aviation facilities in the kingdom’.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthis separately said that a projectile had fallen near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
Bahrain strongly condemned the persistent, criminal terrorist attacks launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, most notably the renewed strike targeting the airport in Riyadh.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthis said in a statement yesterday that a projectile had fallen near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
The attack marked a dangerous escalation following a similar attack on the facility two days earlier, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry emphasised that these assaults represented a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter.
It condemned the attacks as an unacceptable escalation threatening regional security, civil aviation, and the safety of civilian passengers and flight crews.
