GULF WEEKLY -
Irish rock band Fontaines D C drop their new album Dopamine Chamber tomorrow, October 16.
As described by frontman Grian Chatten, the group project brings alive the artist’s perspective on the current state of the world, describing it as the ‘glorious age of distraction’, and how looking away is a human response and survival mechanism.
The creative talent also called the ensemble a spectrum, with lyrics tackling what scares him about the future, and what comforts him about the past.
“I wanted the record to feel like it was a distinct place where you walked through,” he said in an interview, “and you felt both of these things interacting with each other so that you could kind of get a sense of what we’re losing and where we might be headed towards.”
The eleven tracks will include a guest appearance by Grammy-winning Spanish artist Rosalía on Where Is Gone?.
Talking about the collaboration, Grian praised the singer for her talent and vocal abilities.
“I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that there is one kind of grand thing that I’m trying to impart on the world before I get old and die. There’s one thing that I’ll always be chasing. I’ve got a suspicion that her heart is similar to mine.
“She’s such an incredible arranger and composer and lyricist. It’s just so humbling that she was into singing on something that we had arranged. It’s a career high for me, for sure,” he remarked.
The new release follows the band’s Grammy-nominated record Romance (2024), which garnered them mainstream attention.
Formed in 2014, the outfit consists of Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass), Tom Coll (drums) and Carlos O’Connell (guitar), alongside Grian.
