FOOTBALL – BRADFORD City secured a place in the English League Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2013 after goals from Macaulay Gillesphey and Adam Phillips earned them a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United yesterday.
Meanwhile, League Two Fleetwood also reached the last-eight round after beating Arsenal 5-3 on penalties.
Bradford made the most of their opportunities at the Mbanq Valley Parade, with Gillesphey opening the scoring in the first half before Phillips struck after the break to confirm Bradford’s progress into the last eight.
The result also extended Bradford’s impressive defensive record under manager Michael Duff, with the side maintaining their clean sheet in his fifth match in charge.
Peterborough were unable to find a way through despite creating several promising opportunities. The visitors were without suspended striker Harry Leonard, the competition’s leading scorer.
