The UAE has introduced a ministerial decision allowing authorised medical doctors and essential service drivers to exceed speed limits by up to 40 kilometres per hour on non-residential roads.
The exemption applies specifically to emergency responders travelling on highways located outside built-up urban areas.
Under the updated regulations, authorised drivers are exempt from three specific categories of traffic violations while responding to urgent calls.
The law permits these vehicles to utilise emergency shoulder lanes during heavy traffic congestion as well as dedicated bus lanes.
While speed limit exemptions now apply, drivers remain prohibited from running red lights and must exercise due caution to ensure road safety.
