Oman has signed two agreements with China to build a regional space industry and develop satellite assembly, integration and testing facilities in the sultanate.
The partnership brings together Oman Lens and China's Star Vision Aerospace under deals signed in Beijing during Sultan Haitham bin Tariq's state visit.
The first agreement creates a five-year programme to sponsor 30 Omanis for master's and doctoral degrees in China while training 1,000 specialists in space sciences and advanced technology.
It will also establish a joint space artificial intelligence laboratory in Oman.
The second agreement covers satellite development and the launching of seven satellites, with a potential second batch dependent on initial results.
The overall initiative aims to gradually build local space manufacturing capabilities within the sultanate.
