Customs and passport officers are already receiving allowances intended to compensate them for the risks, additional responsibilities and psychological pressures associated with their jobs, the government has told Parliament.The government has therefore indicated that the objectives of a parliamentary proposal to double the hazard allowance for customs and passport employees and introduce financial rewards for officers who seize contraband and uncover violations are already being achieved through the existing benefits system .
