The police in Dubai denied plans to fine motorists AED800, when caught eating or drinking while driving, include Karak tea, according to Al Ittihad newspaper.
The Dubai police issued a statement refuting allegations published in a local newspaper.
Under the new traffic rules, which will take effect on July 1, drivers caught engaging in distracting activities would be fined AED800, in addition to four traffic points penalty.
The new-look traffic law particularly cites use of mobile phones, texting, fixing make-up or the “ghutra” and other wrong practices which distract drivers and endanger the safety of road users.
A local UAE newspaper yesterday claimed that drivers would be banned from eating or drinking.
