MANAMA: Transportation and Telecommunication Minister Kamal Ahmed stressed the importance of Bahraini participation in Gitex 2017 to keep abreast of the global development in the ICT sector, enhance the presence of the Bahraini IT industry in the region, and increase its contribution to national output.
The Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTECH) will join forces with WorkSmart for Events Management to organise the Bahraini pavilion at Gitex 2017 for the 10th consecutive year. The event will be held from October 8 to 12.
Speaking at the annual Ramadan meeting of the BTECH, the minister pointed out his support for the private sector, especially IT companies, and the need to build a fruitful relationship between IT and telecom companies under the umbrella of the BTECH.
He urged IT companies to work together to enhance their competitiveness in regional and global markets, support government efforts to build the knowledge economy and diversify sources of income.
BTECH president Ubaidli Al Ubaidli said 45 exhibitors from public and private sectors are expected to take part within the pavilion, with an increase of about 30 per cent compared with last year’s event.
He stressed that Bahrain’s increased participation in Gitex every year is a good indicator of the growing industry of Information Technology in Bahrain.
“Recording Bahraini presence in this international IT forum was our goal when we first took part in Gitex. After nine years, our goal has become clearer – we now aim to promote and enhance ICT industry in Bahrain, raise Bahraini companies’ share from 6pc to 10pc in the IT investments market in the Arabian Gulf, which is nearly $30 billion,” Mr Al Ubaidli said on the sidelines of the signing ceremony between BTECH and WorkSmart.
WorkSmart chief executive Ahmed Al Hujairi said the company was keen to choose a great location for the Bahraini pavilion at Gitex 2017, an open design and a permanent display screen to show promotions about Bahrain’s economic and investment advantages.
“There will also be a place to display products and services for participating Bahraini companies.
“All our efforts are aimed at helping participating Bahraini companies that are willing to invest in this global forum as well as enter into new partnerships and increase their business and profits,” he added.
